Is there a problem with the 94 model
I have a truck I am thinking about buying. It is a 94 cummins 4x4 5sp with 188K on it. I talked to a guy today and he told me the injector pump and the tranny (both manual and auto) were trouble. Does anyone have any insight on this?
The truck is just Cab...no bed. He is asking 4500 for it. Seems to be in pretty decent shape. Any suggestions would be appreicated!!

There might be something wrong but for the most part, a 12Valve motor with only 188k on it is likely to be a good motor. Have your best mechanic friend ck it out. I have a 1995 with 210K on it and only have had to rebuild the auto trans once, fuel lines once and a water pump. Belts and hoses and shocks, brakes too, normal stuff. Yours could have a need for cleaning the injectors. Have you driven this yet ?
No I wanted to do my research before I made the trip to look at it. She is a little ways away. The thing is, it came off a ranch here in Kansas. Never know how much abuse it has been put through. They said it only hauled small load and at most 10-15 miles from pasture to pasture. Thoughts??
My personal experience along with several people on many CTD websites asking about problems leads one to conclude that the '94 and '95 injection pumps have a problem requiring a rebuild.
People much more in the know than I have traced it to a warping of the DV barrels when hot that causes the DVs to stick.
This causes the engine to stall and not restart until it cools down for a a short time.. Problem can be very intermittent, sometimes months apart, other times many times a day.
I fought it for five years before breaking down and swapping for a rebuilt injection pump. No problems since.

I used to have a 94 and it was a great truck, I think I traded it in at something like 375,000 miles for my 97, and the only reason I did that was for the 4 wheel drive. The only problem I really had with that truck is the shut off valve in the injection pump was screwy.....turn off the key and it kept running till you punched the throttle, tried everything I could think of to fix it and could never get it locked down but other than that it was trouble free.
