Stupid.
Stupid.
I cooked the power steering pump in my truck.
Any likely problems when I change it? Looks like I'll just have to pull a couple things to get access and that's about it?
And there's no issues buying a re-man unit?

Somthing else you might do is see if you can find a viton seal to go between the Vacuum and powersteering pump. The rubber seals fail more often and then you have to pull it apart just to change the seal. Just my .2 worth
In that spirit, get the seal from Fixinrams.com. He includes the updated seal, instructions and the special seal removal and installation tools. Made doing the seal on my vacuum pump a breeze.

u mean the steerign gear? or the pump?...do u have a leak from the pump ? its just a seal...don't replace the pump they're not cheap....just take your time lining things up correctly and seat the seal properly
I have a leak somewhere. I've assumed it is either the high or low pressure line. I can't tell because I need to gunk the entire area then see if I can actually tell. With the vacuum pump, if viton the seal goes you'll just have poor vacuum?
Anyways, because of said leak I ran out of fluid about 200k out in the bush. I re-filled it, but I can tell the pump is dead (intermittantly works). Which isn't exactly suprising seeing as it would have sat there and cavitated for the 200k back home. I might try driving it for another week before I change it. I think I over-filled it, so I'll probably try to get the fluid level correct before I put the last nail in the coffin.
