Semi-basic 12v 5sp questions (RPMs, boost, EGTs, shifter, performance)
you dont need a spacer if you get the right tires. There are a few different brands and they all are just a bit wider or narrower than the next. Toyo m55's run WIDE my 235's almost touch on the rears. I converted my fronts to 3/4 wheels and tookt he spacers off, it handles so much better and less rotating mass feels like the truck leans a lot less. i run 285's in the front in the summer and a matching set of 235/85's in the winter. Mine are cooper Commercial T/A's witch I picked up for less than 400 buks for 6 and they run great, quiet, tons of grip and for me they were cheap. They are a narrow tire which leaves some room between the rear tires. You might be able to get 2 rear outside wheels that are aftermarket and they will be a bit further out than the stocks to help clear tires.
Get an intake, I hated driving my truck with the stock filter on it. It seemed like it wouldn't ever spool up enough to put me in my seat.
Towing injectors like DDP1's and 2's are said to help milage and cleaner power. I had a stock injector take a piston down at 242,000 so if they are stock injectors it wouldn't be a bad idea to have them pop tested or just get some new ones. That lazyness on my part has cost me a $6,400 motor rebuild...

This afternoon I moved my EGT probe pre-turbo so that I have a better idea of what's going on. After a bit of reading I figured I'd start with removing the fuel plate and going from there, if I needed to bring it back anywhere to keep EGTs in check.
I found that I had a stock plate slid all the way forward. I put a few miles on and didn't notice a massive difference, but it's boosting more (under WOT it'll get to 30 slowly but eventually) and as it builds boost it's certainly fueling harder. The AFC does its job very well. I'm going to crank that forward 1 or 2 turns tomorrow, as right now I have zero smoke under WOT, only a light haze when I first get on it. It's also most certainly pulling harder at the top of the RPM range.
It would be nice if I could get it to spool faster. I think a BHAF now, and a new turbo elbow and 4" exhaust when I do an exhaust brake next year will help that out. I may play with restricting the line to see if it will build faster but already getting to 30 I don't want to push it too far and end up over where I should be with the HX35 and stock head gasket and bolts.
I didn't get to pick up the needed star socket to set my timing so I have not played with that yet. I would not be surprised if it's been moved already after seeing a slid fuel plate that I wasn't expecting. I'll find out soon enough.
Have a couple lines on localish used 8 lug 19.5s too. 8.00r19.5s would buy me a few revs at cruise. the other best option I've seen are 9.00r16s, but they might be a little big at about 36", and they're impossible to find these days, all those tires are mil-spec and heading to the sandbox.
