Rough Running Diesel Please Help!!

Yesterday my work truck (98 2500 12 valve auto 4x4) was running fine, pulled up to our next lawn, left the truck idling with ac on only out of truck for 10 mins got back in to leave put truck in drive and it died. Fired right back up put it in drive and gave it gas and it just dumped black smoke, so bad that it smoked out the neighborhood. It wanted to move but wasn't running well at all, and if i let off accelerator pedal it would die again. Just some background on work done, new bell crank and all linkage, trans, injector pump, dowel pin & cover fix. Seems like when putting truck in drive it wants to dump fuel. Any ideas, hopefully my description makes sense.

Thanks
JR

Check for obstructions in the intake, then my best guess would be pump timing slipped? If you didn't get the pump shaft clean, it can slip........

Would it slip like that while it was idling?

Yes it can, especially after the pump had been out. If you don't get the spotless clean the taper doesn't hold.

this is the diesel from hell. Took it to a diesel mechanic today and they check the timing. After getting timing set, they say that there is something wrong in the injection pump, the governor is hanging up. They tell me that the pump needs to be sent out to be rebuilt. This is a rebuilt pump with less than 10,000 miles on it. How does pump **** the bed that fast?

You didn't get it from Pensacola Diesel did you?

Even the P7100 is not immune from ham fisted rebuilders. Get it to a known good pump shop.
