replacing automatic pressure & return lines

Well I noticed when I was at Lowes the other day that one or both of my automatic cooler lines have rusted through back near the tranny and have started leaking. I called the dealer and got the pressure line and the return line for that area. Is there anything special I need to know before replacing these lines... or is it fairly straight forward.. The Haynes and DC shop manual, just say;s if they are broke they need to be replaced, that's it,, nothing in regards to how you would replace them... argh...

Anyway.. anyone have some advice on how this procedure goes.?

Thanks,

Get ready to do some cussin'

Make sure you have a BIG pan when you pull the lines off the side of the trans - it will drain around 10 quarts out of the torque converter.

The screw-in threaded adapters are easily installed in the trans but getting the lines to line up and start straight is the cussin' part of the deal.

You might want to think about changing out the one-way anti-drainback valve in the flex line going to the aux cooler to a piece of flex hose before you get into the job. A local big-rig shop made me a new piece to hose to replace the flex w/valve for about $30.

The biggest issue is to keep the lines from vibrating against each other and potentially rubbing a hole in a line at some point down the road. You can use pieces of rubber hose slit lengthwise and clamped on to alleviate this issue if the stock clips do not quite line everything up nince and tight.

Not a bad job, just kinda messy and you have ot hold your mouth just right ot get the lines to start threading. Good luck.
