I am in the Minnetonka area. Right now the truck is in the shop getting the front end rebuilt. At the same time they are also going to check the tranny pressure out of the governor port because the thing shifts like crap and Dave Goerend thinks that will tell him what the problem is. I'm hoping its something I can repair without replacing the entire transmission but at this point who knows. Either way I think I found a triple disk TC for $500 with 10000 miles on it (with good referrals so I actually believe the guy). Anyways while the truck is in the shop I'm also having them set the timing because they said they would do it for 1 hour labor ($82). I figure for that price I just want it done. Gonna have it set at 17 cause as I said before I still have the 160 pump and it sounds like with this pump I can get away with that. Unless someone tells me otherwise before noon tomorrow thats what its gonna be.

My trans was shifting a little off , and seemed like it was slipping badly when accelerating a little heavy from a stop , or trying to pass , now with the 180 pump , it seems like the trans & TQ work better , but I also take it easy , because I can not afford to do any trans work right now .
What shop in Minnetonka ?
Let us know how it works out , ask if they work on these truck much ?

The name of the shop is One Stop Auto in Long Lake. The guy that owns it has been in the area for years and I have known since I was very young. I went to him instead of my normal guy because he has more experience with these trucks and also he has a much nicer alignment rack.

I have a 98 with the 180 hp pump. Garmons Diesel set my timing at 20 deg the other day. They do it all the time and say there are no ill effects, just more pep and better mileage. Jeff knows his stuff and I trust that he would not set the timing at 20 if he thought it was going to kill the headgasket. Going to put a set of marine 370 injectors in as well. He said they will make great power and also improve mileage. Also said that the 20 deg timing and the 370's were a good match. So far my engine seems very happy at 20 degrees timing.

370's do not add fuel economy

I have read that bigger injectors can add millage , but I am under the impression that 370 are bigger than you need just to get more millage , so controlling your foot is the rest , with 370s .

Marine injectors just add smoke unless you also have marine pistons.
The spray pattern isn't right for the pistons in our trucks.

A buddy of mine (John Faughn knows him, too) did some timing experiments after Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) was the standard pump fuel. Josh determined that a truck that ran well on 16° timing with Low Sulfur Diesel (LDS) needed around 15° timing with ULSD.

Especially when you add advanced timing. They 370's make cheap power, but you they do cost you.

Nothing will if you keep your foot planted to the floor! This information came straight from Jeff Garmon's mouth, why would he lie? He is not trying to sell me injectors. Jeff owns one of the most respected diesel performance shops in the country and is certainly a straight shooter. Have you even tried a set of 370's at 20 deg. timing and checked your mileage?

That's what I figure. At cruise and 20 deg. pump timing I would bet they would improve mileage. I will do a real world test when I install mine and we will see. If they hurt or help mileage I will post the results no matter the outcome.
