The valve adjustment is a cake walk. Get yourself a straight set of feeler gauges as they are easier to work with on the rear cylanders. Also roll the #6 valve cover towards the passenger side to remove. If you do it right it will come right off of the truck. Otherwise you will scratch your head for 15 minutes going what the heck. I think the first time took about half an hour. You might want to go ahead and replace the valve cover gaskets while you are in there. I think it was easier to do the valves on the cummins than an old small block chevy. Take your time and have fun.

Does anyone use the reverse rotation procedure to adjust the valves? It seems much easier to do to me. Its also easier to rotate the engine by the alternator nut too.

It's the easiest way to turn the engine over without a barring tool.

I got an email from Piers Diesel a while back, giving the steps to adjusting valves using the reverse rotation process (using the alternator nut to turn the engine). If anyone needs this you can PM me.

Check out my gallery. I realize its a 24V but it might be good for some visuals. I took those pics when I did my valves.

Yeah I found the reverse procedure in an old Trailer Life magazine and i've kept the magazine ever since. Thats a VERY easy method in my opinion.
