Pointers on replacing T-case Input Gear?
Well, the 5 spd swap is almost ready to happen. Im planning on pulling the trans this weekend. Gona cut a big hole in my floor tomorow...I already hooked up the clutch pedal...its just hangin there for now
I'm hoping to pull the trans, take care of the t-case and install the 5spd in one day at a buddies shop. Any tips on replacing the gear in the t-case?
I got my new gear and bearing from Standard gear. When i called they said they only listed one bearing, so they sent it. But i had heard somewhere that there were two options...she seemed pretty sure there was just one for my 96. Hope I get lucky.
Thanks for all the input so far.
This is gona be fun.

I've done the same swap in a 97. The bearing just needs to match the new gear that you got, which it should if you bought both. There was a wide and a thin bearing for my T-Case and bearing size is determined by the input gear. Any other questions let me know.

The lady said the bearing was determined by DHD, and DLD, but what Pete said makes sense to becauae the input gear has a snap ring grove and hopefully they sent the bearing that matches that.
Nothing tricky about the install, Pete gave me great instructions and I printed out the section from the service manual and just had it on the workbench. I was suprised how simple the t-case was once u open it, Don't take apart the mainshaft, pull it in one piece. If u dont have a service manual I can upload the one I have and u can print out the t-case section which has step by step how to remove and install the input gear.

lol ^.. thats good advice. I just cut the hole as I was going, and pretty much mangled it, lol. A nice clean template drawn on the underside of the floor would have been a very smart move. Just make sure u leave enough metal for the screws to catch. The only thing I dislike about the 5spd hole is that it made the cab louder, not that it was quiete before, lol.
