12v Timing

how much timing is safe for a '96 with a hx35 hybrid, #10 plate, 4K gsk with a stock head gasket and stock head bolts. I did a search but couldn't find the exact answer I'm looking for..

What I've been told, max is 16 degrees...

16 degrees is good advice. You are lucky, you have a 887 or 913 pump, so you don't need as much advance to pull the higher rpm's. Easier on the head gasket.
