This is on a 97

I tried to open the water drain valve on the fuel filter and it wouldn't budge. Its a yellow lever with another thin black plastic piece on it and the drain goes down the side of the filter and the pipe continues to down near the oil pan. I asked the dodge dealer and they said just move it - I said it wouldn't and they said "sounds like a problem, bring it in." I assume you just push it, which didn't work. I tried all sorts of push, pull, tug, and wiggle combinations and it didn't go. I don't want to force it.

Is there any trick to opening the drain valve? A lock mechanism to prevent it from opening by itself? given all that shaking it would seem logical but I can't get in there to look at it well, apart from the obvious color.

Any thoughts, help would be appreciated.

you should just be able to turn it towards the engine and it should open with really no force at all. might want to check and see if the yellow handle is not in any kind of bind if not try alittle shot of penetrating oil to see if that will loosen it up sorry i couldn't be more help ive just not seen one stuck before.

 

ditto on plow's comment. sounds like I have the same setup as you, I just turned mine clockwise, away from the filter. it was easy to turn, no force required.
