Oil Pressure ?
I hope you'll realize I'm a newbie and will be asking many a question while on the learning curve.
The oil pressure gauge on my 12 valve takes a good 2-3 seconds before registering. Once it does take it's idleing @ 40 psi and up to 60 psi while cruising.
Just changed the oil and have noticed it was doing the same both before and after the oil change.
Is this normal?
Another question; anyone have a replacement oil pan plug that is some type of ball valve that is less messy and possibly tooless?
I have something like that on my I/O smallblock in our boat.

Both of mine have been slow to come up to oil pressure since new, over 200k on both of them, if it's a problem it's taking it's sweet time. Some folks say the delay is just in the electronics, I'm not so sure of that myself because the engine does sound different when the pressure comes up.
There are plenty of oil drain valves availible here http://198.104.149.53/CoastalData/sh...ectGroup_ID=46

Thanks infidel.
The finger touch is what I have on my smallblock in the boat.
Anyone concerned about how far it sticks down from the pan and afraid of it taking a hit and being snapped off?
My rig a 2wd street driver.

I have the concern that some brush, etc might open a drain valve so have stuck with the stock plug.
People who have the drain valves claim it is close to impossible but I personally don't like the idea of running out of oil in the Montana boonies in January.

I wouldn't do it unless I could protect it from getting hit. I don't live in Montana, but New Mexico has a LOT of mountains that I like to go up in and there are a lot of rocks and brush that I go over. You can get a long way from anything out here.
The delayed oil pressure thing is pretty much normal. Mine takes aprox 5-10 sec to come up and the sound does change too, so it is taking that long to build up pressure. If it takes 30 sec or more, you should check it out.
