I always put in 10 plus 1 in the filter on my 1997 and the level is always at the full mark.

Put 11 in and remark your dip stick, there should of been a insert in your truck manual stating that the 10 quarts was wrong. My 94 was the same way. I have always purchased three gallons and poured in 12 and remarked my dipstick for 12 with no problems,as alot of other guys here do. Goodluck,,Rick

i figured 11 quarts. i run 11 on my 02 2500. only reason i asked is that i just bought it a month ago and the previous owner had 10 quarts written on the air intake. thanks for the answers.

The oil pan is 10 quarts and the filter holds 1. So it's an 11 quart oil change. When you do an oil change, put in 10 quarts to check the full mark on the stick, then add 1 more for the filter. The add mark is 2 quarts below the full mark. Many people just put in the full 3 gal and do not have any problems with oil leaks or consumption.
