Re:crankcase vent bottle
You won't hurt anything by taking it off. If anything, it'll help keep everything underhood cleaner. It won't hurt anything if you never empty it. Except that if you live in a cold climate, the water that will collect in the bottle will freeze, then you've got no ventilation, thus potentially pushing out seals. (and eventually it will just fill and overflow). And yes, taking it off will cause spots on the driveway.
Re:crankcase vent bottle
The best thing to do is to get 4' of 5/8" heater hose (take your existing hose with you cuz it might be 3/4"
, a splice, and two hose clamps. Use the splice to hook to the existing hose and route it down below the motor but over the crossmember. Then you can zip tie the hose to the control arm bracket. No more dumping or mess on the front of your motor.

Yes it is 3/4 in. I got some hose, a barbed connector, and a 90* barbed elbow. Ran the hose under the engine in the frame to the crossmember and exited straight down with elbow. No leaks in garage. Just be sure to not let the hose sag or oil will collect and stop venting!

I got one of those bicycle water bottles and brackets the bikers use, fastened it horizontally to the front swaybar - then after removing the stock catch bottle, extended the hose down to the new bottle after opening up the top to accept the larger hose. I drilled ventilation hoses to let crankcase gases vent, and pulled an old sock over the whole bottle to act as an absorbent filter - I merely replace the sock at oil changes - no drips and no mess all over the underside of my truck...

Works slick as snot... ;D ;D

An old sock...
What a great idea, now if I can just find one..,maybe I will search the dryer. Oh, look! jackpot I seem to have several (dozen) singles in my sock drawer. The wife must have already had the idea to use a sock and forgot to tell me about it.

Tim

The procedure eliminate4s the breather from the timing chain cover and moves it to the tappet cover on the side of the engine block where it belongs and routs the hose down behind the starter. Since the modification which I had done 3k ago not a drop of oil anywhere on the engine

Re:crankcase vent bottle
How hard is it to relocate the bottle. Everytime I change my oil I get under my truck and clean all that mess up. Sure would be nice to not have all that mess on the front of my cummins.
