I've found running a higher cetane fuel has helped quiet the motor down at idle, made it much more peppy, but yes it does decrease max power a little bit. People are probably confusing a max power gain to the peppiness it has.

I'd take the cetane boost and lubricity over the minute max power and possible mpg loss anytime (that it is warm out ). I can literally hear the moment the higher cetane fuel reaches my IP, makes the diesel have less "knock" at idle.

Personally I would prefer a cleaner burn and more BTU's (which may be slightly better fuel economy). For lubricity I add a proper diesel additive or run B2. JMHO.

I company I work for just ordered 2500 gallons of diesel and they gave us CLEAR Diesel. They said its in preparation for winter(susposely it last longer in colder temps). Any of you guys heard of that.

Yes I have, from what I've read any purchase of 1000gallons or more can be purchased as undyed diesel.

Not always.
Quite a few suppliers now use an anti-gel additive with straight #2 instead of #1 blend in their winter fuel. Cheaper and easier.
Only way you'll know is to ask.

Yea, I agree with Bill here. You know the funny thing. I always used to think certain companies had better fuel than others but after emailing Mobil, CMS, BP, ... I found that they all just say I don't know anything about the cetane or such because we send them a basic fuel and it is up to the individual station to treat it. So if you hate the fuel from your local BP the one in the next city may or may not be the same way.

Also to this point not all stations that carry diesel carry kerosene so unless the truck filling them up did it, it isn't very probable.

Thumbs up Red Fuel

Here in the California High Sierra's, There are a chain of fuel stations that are self serve automated billing stations. They're called Chases & they pump 'Red Fuel' at the pump. What I've heard is that quite a few people (not me, hahaha) buy 55 gal drums & fill them with 'Red' & fill their trucks at home.

Off-road #2 is permitted to contain higher levels of sulfur than automotive diesel. But that means the distributor needs 2 storage tanks. So often, it all comes out of the same low sulfur automotive fuel tank, and dye is added for off-road as well as heating oil.

Red Fuel Penalty

There is so much ranching & agriculture in this area that getting caught is practically nil. My ranch is 220 acres & I'm small potatoes compared to some around here...
