nv4500 leaking on trips

Im having an issue with my nv4500. Whenever i take it on trips or at sustained speeds of 65 or over it sprays tranny fluid up on the exhaust pipe and leaks from somewhere. If im just driving it around home etc it never leaks. What gives???

Sounds like you need to figure out where it's leaking from. Maybe a seal needs replaced?

Clean if off to find the leak...Could be automatic transmission fluid out of the t-case or expensive oil coming out of your 5-speed...I had a similair problem...It was the t-case seal..

Might be the thick rubber gasket between top plate and plastic shifter housing. Ive had them go bad.

Or the shift boot may be torn under the interior boot. I would check the vent to make sure it isn't plugged.

There are two versions of the NV4500 shift covers..Thats a good idea....Check your vent tube...That sure sounds like your problem....I hope..

I am thinking the vent tube is plugged or missing .
Hopefully..
It is at the top of the case behind the shifter on the passengerside if I remember right.
It is pretty short.
I have seen this happen from overfilling them as well, did you recently add/change fluid?

Me too.
They get overfilled when people mistakenly think more is better and add the fluid by removing the shifter and pouring the oil in from inside the cab rather than using the fill plug which is engineered to make it hard to overfill.
Using more than the designed fluid level makes the tranny run much hotter and expands the fluid till it pukes out.

if it was overfilled wouldnt it leak all the time? this seems to leak only when running above 60-65mph and on sustained speeds. i dont know if the guy who worked on it messed with the tranny fluid. i know he added some t-case fluid.

No, it could only leak when it got hot enough and expanded, and then puked out the beather tube, just like you are describing.
I sold a guy a NV-4500 a few months ago.
He over-filled the tranny before re-installing.
He emailed me as to why it was puking fluid when on long trips at high speed after he installed it...
It was do to over-filling the NV-4500 before being installed.
Could be your problem.
