NV4500 Information Needed
NV4500 Information Needed
How much of a hassle is it to tear an NV4500 apart and put it back together? I know my way around tools and engines, but the last transmission I rebuilt was a '59 Chevy 3-speed some 45 years ago. I have the Dodge shop manual, and going through that it would appear to be doable, except for all the special tools listed for various tasks. Are those tools essential or can they be worked around? Thanks, everyone.

I haven't pulled apart my 4500 yet.But did a complete overhaul on a super T-10 and it wasn't bad at all.I asked a few people here that have done it and they said the overhaul and disassebly is easy on the 4500.As I know the only special tools would be the 5th gear nut tool and a snap ring pliers.
quad4x4.com has a vidoe to walk you through the entire process along with a kit and all the parts. He has some really cool upgrade kits too. He gt me going after my 5th gear nut fell off

Thanks guys. I'll check out quad's site and get started. Both the drive and driven 5th gears show rough spots, and the case has a fair amount of metal filings on the bottom.
