New Guy needing some axle info
New Guy needing some axle info
Hi everyone, I just joined this site and had a few questions. I bought a 95 Dodge 2500 4x4 a few months ago, 237k miles, new trackbar, upper & lower balljoints, u joints, front wheel bearings (ouch), & a few other things. The truck has an open rear diff with 3.55's, can anyone tell me how many splines are on the axles? I've heard 32 and 35, but I'd like to know for sure. Thanks!
Maybe try this site:
http://www.dodgeram.org
In the tech menu there are writeups on the different series of axles, transmissions etc that may answer your question..
More specificly here is the page, depending on your axle model it has all that info and more..

JWFMOPAR,
Welcome to DTR......you will love it here.....ther is a wealth of information here and some great guys.
JWFMOPAR. Please post back when you install you LS and let us know the spline count. Thanks
CTD NUT. At this moment I have 2 Powr-Lok units I removed from 2nd gen trucks, Dana 70, that are both 32 spline on my workbench.
If you would like, I could take some pics of the build dates stamped on them, and the side gears so you could count them.
You said all 32 splines were 1st gens, but in THIS thread, a member with a 89 D70 buys a 32 spline LS carrier.
But it won't work because he has a 35 spline D70, in a 1st gen.

B KIRK,
While I don't deny that different years of 1st gen could have had either a 32 or 35 spline D70, I have never seen a 2nd gen D70 32 spline axle or a listing that would suggest that. I have ordered many parts and serviced several 2nd gen D70's and they have all been 35 spline.
I never said 1st gens were all 32 spline......I'm well aware they can come either way......I'm just surprised to here of a 2nd gen 32 spline D70.

Any 2nd gen D70 "I" have ever serviced have been 32 splines.
"I" have yet to come across a D70 that was 35 spline in a 2nd gen ram.
The D70's in a Ford, yes, are 35 spline.
If you would like a listing, easy.
Try SUMMIT, fill in the make, model, and any 2nd gen year, and go to the drivetrain parts.
When you get to axle model, go to Dana 70.
Look at results. Now click on the part number next to pic.
Then go to "Show All" and scrool down and look at applications.
Or type in part # PWT-92-0407-3200 and go to "Show All".
I set-up my first R&P in 1981, and bought the necessary tools to install.
This is one of the services I do out of my garage.
With that said, because "I" have never seen a 35 spline in a 2nd gen doesn't mean they never came that way.
But for you to come out and say:
because "you" have never seen one, is also incorrect.
