Need Fix For Oil Pressure Sending Unit

My truck has 105k miles and the sending unit is going out(from what I have read on this board)So I go to the dealer and he tells me that he needs the vin# so that they know what part it is, they said anywhere between 50-250$!! ok So has anyone replaced this with a mech. guage? where would I get something that looks good(not cheap autozone guages)and works? Also can I disable the factory setup? This thing is driving me nuts. seems like whenever I slow to an idle the alarm comes on, give it a little go pedal and pressure comes back up.

Just go buy a sending unit from Cummins, last time I paid $52.
You can also buy generic sending units from any auto parts for around $20 but they tend not to last long.

I agree with Bill 100%. I carried my new replacement around with me for a couple weeks until I got in some major stop-n-go traffic. After about the 10th time hearing "ding, ding", I had enough. I pulled over and changed it in a parking lot....in about 5 minutes. No more annoying dings, lol. I think mine was around $40 about 3 months ago.

Is the 98 12 valve sending unit different from the 94-97 12 valves?

I paid the local Kenworth dealer $39.00 for a cummins oil pressure switch. Check at your local truck dealer the Cummins parts are always cheaper than from Dodge.

This is one of the few parts they source from DC. It is the same sending unit used on most DC vehicles up to around 97-98
