I just wanted to know what you all usually do as for as maintenence to your trucks. Check out my sig. I just bought the 1998 12v about a month ago and so far this is what I have done:

1. Change oil and transmission fluids and filters.
2. Change fuel filter
3. Had the valves adjusted (helped a bunch).
4. New serpentine belt.
5. Put on a 4" exhaust system. (WOW!!! Can I say power?)
6. New air filter.

Does that usually cover most of the bases? The only other thing I will probably do in the future is to change the differential fluids and transfer case fluid. Anything else in particular I should consider doing

Tab the KDP

Don't know if you also changed the fuel pre-filter.

Depending on where you live, make sure your grid heater is working before the cold hits.

fix the KDP (its behind the timing cover) do a search on here Ithink theres quite a few directions and most importantly pictures on it.

Also I highly suggest a solid steel 03 trac bar conversion and DSS.

the trac bar setup will fix the death wobble (you can search on all of these too) thats where your wheels up front wiggle violently ususaly after hitting an offcenter bump and you kind of lose controll of your truck untill you come to just about a stop. Always seems to happen at high speed too

The dss is a steering stabliser. It helps suport the steering box and will save your box, seals, and bearings. Trust me its cheaper then a new box and will make the old one last almost forever.

1) KDP
2) Differential Fluids (75w-90 or 140 gear oil, synthetic is better)
3) Fuel Pre-filter (www.dodgeram.org)
4) Front end - Check: Track bar, front wheel hubs, all other bushings for play.

When I bought my truck, the guy told me that it has a new track bar on it. I do not know, however, if it the solid steel kind. How do I tell if it is? There also is a shock attached to the steering mechanism. Is that a steering stabilizer? Thanks!

That is 'a' steering stabilizer you found, the factory one, just a shock absorber. The one everyone here is talking about is a steering box reinforcement called DSS by Solid Steel Industrial Manufacturing Ltd.
