5th gears still holding strong with the welds I did, i'd probably weld two nuts together if I got another nv4500, but I can't complain......yet

 

GCSS, I forgot to tell you I feel your pain on those long drives in 4th gear. The first time I lost 5th, we were in Lake Charles, LA & the 2nd time it went out, we were in Toronto, ON. It sure is boring driving at 55mph!

 

I did mine on the way to a wedding pulling my camper, kept going in fourth and partied it up and then had to drive home in fourth, hungover. Not fun

 

I found that cat bearing mount works good to fix the problem.

Take Box's advice I copied his weld job and she is running strong .

 

syntorq from what i know is the only "approved" fluid for the 4500 and is made my casteroil. I called casteroil and they said of course that only dodge has the lisences to buy it from them and sell it (theres aload of bs) so after searching around a few years back I found the above link to quad4x4 to be the cheapest. Good luck with the nut, I just had my 2 4500 rebuilt with fully splined main shafts. Got rid of the 6 speed.
