lift pump question

my buddy had a fuel leak at the lift pump the other day. so he ordered a holley blue electric fuel pump. He eliminated the lift pump all together and put a plate over the hole. now he is just runnin the holley all together.. has anybody else done this?.. is it ok to do?.only thing i was worried about was the right amount of fuel pressure.. i dont know any replies would be great.. my lift weak and if its ok to do that, ill go that route..thanks

Are you talking about a 12V??

If so, no this isnt a good idea. A Holley blue only puts out 14 psi or so, iirc...on a 12V you need a lp that will supply 40 psi...

But hes starving it of fuel.

I dont know why someone would take off a buletproof lift pump and replace it with an electric that will last a short time.

I ran my FASS (18psi) for about two months, ran great, never an issue. When I went to 45psi setup, there really wasn't much difference other than my FP gauge is constantly pegged.

I thought it was lubed by oil. But the fuel does the cooling??

Most of the P pump is cooled/lubed by oil unlike the VP but fuel cools the parts of the pump not reached by oil such as the DVs and plungers.
Think about it, oil and fuel aren't mixing in the pump.

One of the things I don't like about electric is that is supplies the same flow regardless of engine speed. The mechanical lift pump increases flow with RPM obviously. But with a bump in pressure at higher RPM, you are bumping the timing a tad in the process.. There is method to the madness..

When I had the low pressure FASS on it, it was 18psi at idle, and 16psi at WOT. I had a much greater drop with my VP than I did with the p-pump. Whats the flow rating on the stock lift pumps at various rpms? The lowest GPH FASS out there is a 90, which seems it would fit the bill for most people here.
