intercooler boot

guys, I was going through some general maintenance on my truck, like checking tranny lines for rub, while I was taking off my sport front end that I SOLD! {sorry blue!} but anyhow I saw a about a 1/2inch tear in my intercooler boot. the boot that runs underneith the radiator support on drivers side! is this hurting boost? I have not got my gauges in yet to tell, and I do not really now because of the way it runs because I have not drove it much lately! It is just a slit, Could I put some duct tape over this until I get a new one? where do I get a new one at? they are kindof expensive arent they? cant I use a piece of rubber hose the same size? thanks in advance guys!

I had a rub mark on both my lower intercoller boots. If I was you right now I would buy the PDR intercoller boots. I bought them and gained5 PSI of boost

If you've ever pressurized your intake system to 35 psi with an air compressor looking for leaks it's easy to see how a little leak can become bigger with boost and how a boot that has plenty of clearance can start rubbing on the fender. The first time I pressurized one it was downright scary how much the stock boots balloon out. The boots Piers sells are much heavier duty, don't balloon and are cheaper than the stock boots to boot.

The *********** wanted $155+tax from me for one boot!!!!!!! I found some perfect used ones for a small fraction of that, but the more solid aftermarket ones that Piers sell look like a good deal. Being thicker I`m sure they are fun to put on but well worth the effort! Good used ones on Ebay seem to go for $40+ each.

WHAt do you mean? I don't think they are that bad, are they? they/re not like a tire, that you change every so often. I would take one off your hands for a price. maybe even 2. I can't afford to buy new!

Those PDR boots are tough!

If you have a 99+, and you have never looked at your lower boots, then you better. I think they put a bigger intercooler in during 99-02 because there is not as much room as the 12valves. The fender was cutting into the lower boots on my 01, and on my grandpappys 01.

While I agree with you Whitmore, many of us are trying to keep our ageing rigs running down the road on a very tight budget! A stock boot with no holes is still better than a stock boot with a tear. If we`d had this discussion last week, when I was in dire need for a boot I would have been at your house on trash day! Take care!

I have the HD boots from Piers and there is NO comparison with the old ones, They are only half as thick and if you do a pressure check like infidel says you prolly wouldnt want the stockers if you saw how they blew up like a balloon.

Cheers, Kevin

If you don't change to the PDR boots at least cut a section of garden sized hose lengthwise and slip it over the sharp edge on the lower fender. Saves you from a headache down the road.
