I can't speak to your '95, but the differences in the 180 auto pump and the 215 manual pumps in '97 include different helix cuts on the 12 mm plungers, different camshafts, different governor spring setup and other small differences. I suspect the differences in the 95 pumps are similar.

Cams are the same between the 180 and 215.

I'm speaking of the injector pump cam, not the engine cam.

The information I posted is from Joe Donnelly who is a staff writer for the Turbo Diesel Register. He was one of the first, if not THE first, to coax over 800 HP from a 12 valve Cummins with # 2 diesel only. He tested and helped develop most of the different plate cuts that were developed by TST. I'm 100% sure his information is accurate.

So what are your credentials and how many 800 HP 12 valves have you built?

My credentials are the same as yours, posting info you read on the internet. Go to Comp-D and read CTDyounggun's and Smokem's posts, they actually list the bosch part numbers for the cams.

Joe isn't just a name from the internet. He is a real person that I have met and who has done some work on my engine. In case you don't know, the TDR is a published magazine, not just an internet site.

There is a Bosch repair center in Austin. I'll give them a call tormorrow and ask about the part numbers. I'll bet that they are different.

Just got a PM from a cert. Bosch pump tech. confirming they are the same cam, P/N 9401087903. But I've never met the guy and he hasn't worked on my truck, or published in a magazine, so maybe thats only worth one cent instead of two.

It turns out that both our sources are correct. The 180 pumps have two different cams, depending on the year built and/or the emission standard. (Think CA models). One of those cams is the same as the 215 cam.

Thats as simple as putting a plate and a GSK in it and calling it a 300hp pump. Get the 10 digit number off the side of the pump to know what you really have. 0 402 736 XXX. Fill in the X's.
