injector pump

I am new to this site and to the diesel family, About 4 weeks ago I bought a 97 dodge 2500 with a cummins and a 5 spd. It was in California so it is the 180 horse pump, it is my understanding that the 180 and the 215 pump were basically the same except for some insides. Does any one know how or what it would take to turn my 180 into a 215? I already have a #6 fuel plate but i think I would get more if I had a 215 pump with that plate, am I right? Any help would be great!

Well, you could go two different ways. You can get lots of power out of a 180 pump, especially if you get a reputable pump shop to turn it up and balance it for you. Or, you could buy a 215 pump. The differences on the insides you speak of would not be cost-effective to change on the pump you have. Oh, and welcome!

Ya, I was wandering if I should just go find a 215 pump. The reason I want to change is because my dads is a 215 pump and he has a #10 plate in it and I have a #6 which is bigger supposedly, and yet he can hand my *** to me. He has tons more power than I do, not to mention the smoke, and he is only at 280 horse (supposedly) while I'm at 250. I didn't think this little of difference should make that much difference in actuall power?

You should also do some research on the plates fueling curves, some people hate the 5 plate because they say it gives you fuel at the wrong time. BY far the 10 plate is the most popular until much more fuel is needed because it supposedly give the most steady flow of fuel, there are a ton of things it could be, he could be a better driver, shifter, knows how to build boost at take off better, there's a lot of variables you need to take into account here
