Impending tranny failure??

After driving my truck for a mile or so when I come to a stop or slow down it will intermittently drop into neutral like it has lost all hyd. pressure, it only does it when cold and haven't been able to catch it acting up long enough to get a pressure reading, no codes. To make it start pulling again I can shift it into neutral and rev it up a time or 2 and once it starts pulling again it will shift perfectly and will not act up again for several days. On tap for this weekend if it thaws up enough outside is a service and band adjustment to make sure there is not an issue with the filter being dirty and/or bands out of adjustment.

This brings me to another question, if this thing is going south on me I have a mopar reman 47RH from a 94 I used to have that was a 2 wheel drive with zero miles on it. Will enough of the hard parts from the 47RH swap over to a 47RE to make it worth my while to use that one as a parts doner or would I be better off trading or selling that one and get the proper year model specific parts for my 97?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

if it works ok when warmed up i would suspect fluid level. check it in neutral cold. if it reads full add one quart and try it. i have worked on chry trans for 40 years and have never seen one have a problem one or two quarts over full.

It is a drainback issue and air is getting trapped in the valve body for a short time. The way to solve it is to add some fluid as stated above. Keep it slightly over full and the problem should go away.

I bet if you check the level now the fluid will have lots of foam in it. Recheck it a few times a few days later till the foam works its way out.

Also a reminder that you check the fluid level with the wheels blocked, parking brake on and idling in drive. Go figure dodge making you go through all these steps to check the fluid level.
