Question How hard is it to pull auto tranny??

I have a friend with a '96 Dodge Cummins 2x4 with a auto tranny, he needs at least a new TC/ valve body, and he called a tranny shop got a quote of $3500. Now I do not know what all is included with this quote.

Here is a couple of questions I have:

1. If he bought a rebuilt tranny, how hard is it to replace and about how long should it take?

2. How hard would it be to replace the TC and valve body?

Thanks in advance....

U can pull out and replace the auto in a matter of hours. It's really not that hard once u just get going, especially a 2wd since u don't have to deal with the xfercase... The hardest part is the 6 flexplate to TC bolts, because u have to do them by feel through the inspection plate on the passenger side of the engine adapater, but it's really clockwork once u get the first one off.

Along those same lines...not to attempt hijack, but a friend asked about assembling everything(I had mine installed so I could not answer)...he wants to know if all the parts are individually balanced, or if there is only a certain way things go together. ie: The older type gasser flexplates had a certain alignment of the crank bolts, same with the old tc, offset bolt pattern, etc. So basically, I guess he needs to know whether there is a specific method to assemble everything or does it not matter? Dang that's cornfusing!! :-) TIA, appreciate any/all asistance.
