I know about the high idle kits but do they have them for a 12v? if so where can you get it, my truck is a little tempermental in the morning with the timing and a high idle feature would be really nice.

A while back I did some searching for the same thing. Before TDR changed their policy on non-members being able to view forum threads I gathered a little info from someone there. The info is copied below.

Try an air-conditioner kick up solenoid off of about an 82-85 Pontiac car.....One has a brass bracket that you have to modify the hole about a 32nd of an inch and bolts right on, adjustable at the solenoid and just a power/ground switch. Worth 59 bucks brand new, 20 minutes to complete, or 4 bucks at a Pick a Part junkyard.

If I knew how to insert an image from my PC I it would show what this kick-up solenoid in position as a high idle looks like.

Another idea I found is described below.

Hey there guys. I made myself a high idle kit. I used a piece of flat steel, drilled a 3/8 hole in one end and bolted it behind the filler spout. I then bent it down and made a hole to fit a solenoid off a Holley carb and push on throttle linkage.

I posted a pic of a GM Quadrajet solenoid I rigged up to hold the the throttle open a couple years ago but it doesn't show up on the new and improved website. Can't find the pic on my PC anymore. What I did was make a bracket that bolts to the timing gear cover and positions the solenoid to hold the throttle open. Power comes from an "ignition on" hot wire with a simple toggle switch mounted on the dash. Speed is adjustable by turning the plunger on the solenoid. The solenoid doesn't have enough power on it's own to open the throttle, but will hold it open.

 

I saw this on a used CTD i looked at, i have no idea what it is off of , but this is how it was setup:

I have built up a bracket for a high idle solenoid on the engine. I purchased the idle solenoid from NAPA and don't know the exact application.. I just looked through the Echlin catalog on the desk under "Idle Stop Solenoid"

The bracket was easy to build with some scrap steel bar. Total cost was around $50 for the solenoid.

 

I think that you could put something on like a pull rod lock that will lock in place kinda thing . I have thought about just putting another cable through/ hooking it up and getting pull tab that would lock in place. This way you would have a lot of adjustment in the RPM's. This is just what I have been thinkig about though does not really reflect any design I have seen. In other words it sounds good in my head but may not work.

 

I was working on one with a lawnmower throttle control cable..... I'll let yall know how it works out

 

Check these out Throttle Cable . They are adjustable and instantly release when you hit the button.

 

yep something like that is what I had in mind. Looks like some has already created the wheel for me.
