Just Bought a 97 Ram 2500 with the cummins
1) What oil filter should I buy. Dodge dealer says MOPAR filter 5083285AA
I havent seen this part number in any other posts. Can anyone verify this
part number. Or give me anouther good filter brand and part number.

2) Oil recomendations brand and viscosity

Go to Cummins and get the Fleetguard filter as it is recommended by Cummins and cheaper than buying at the dealer.

As for oil, I have been using Shell Rotella 15W40 since day one.

You will undoubtedly get many recommendations, but this is what I use:
Fleetguard(Cummins) LF3894 filter, and Valvoline Premium Blue 15w/40
I get them both at Cummins Northwest.

don't buy from a dealer they are expensive use a fleetgaurd stratapore filter and you might want to change your fuel filter too. heres a website that sells fleetgaurd filters

most everyone on here uses one of these oils shell rotella,valvoline blue, mobil delvac, amsoil and chevron delo all of them are 15w-40 i think they are all great oils i use amsoil since its the only synthetic out there.

 

Get yourself a Fleetguard #3894 - best filter you can buy, IMO and reasonably priced from most Cummins dealers..........I have used Shell Rotella T for years and I am happy with it's performance.

 

Genos has a kit put together which contains 4 oil filers, 2 fuel filters, and 1 air filter. Good price and great folks to work with!
