Hard to get into Reverse?

I am new to a 5sp Dodge CTD. So, bear with me....

Is it normal to need to rock the truck a bit in 1St so that I can get the shifter to go into Reverse?

Re:Hard to get into Reverse?

I just figured that every truck had a bit of a sweet spot for getting it into reverse. I find I need to move the truck about a foot or so to get the reverse to lock in. If not, it grinds and won't go into reverse at all.

TJ

I know, totally different animal, but. . .

On my Toyota, most of the time to get it into reverse I had to push in the clutch,
try reverse,
let clutch out, (in N) :
push clutch in again,
go into reverse smooth as bottom of baby.

Soon I just skipped step 2 and had no problems.

No idea if Toyota's had synchros or whatever, but it worked.

Just in idea.

phox

Re:Hard to get into Reverse?

In my experience, it seems like most will eventually get in a bind of some kind and need to be nudged a little in some way to get it to go into gear, any gear, sittin still. If its an every time thing and/or gettin worse, and spreading to other gears, first and third come to mind, watch for problems(going out) IMO It may not have a thing to do with it, but I had the fifth gear nut back off twice on the 98.5 that I had and hard shifts(or hard to get to go in gear) were the warning signs. Unfortunately, sooner not later, I called the last one within two days of actually happening.
