NV 4500, hard to get into reverse
NV 4500, hard to get into reverse
During a standard, ordinary shift, I managed to chip a tooth in 3rd gear. As recommended by my mechanic, I got a rebuild trans from Anaheim Gear with a upgraded 5th gear shaft. The problem is that it will not go into reverse. The stick will go "over and down", but it stops just short of going into gear. If I hold the stick in place and let out the clutch, nothing happens, the gears will not grind nor will it go in. I then move the stick to neutral, let out the clutch and try again, sometimes it will go in, sometimes not. If I let the stick come back to me, not moving it all the way to the right, it seems to work better, but it is hard to do that. Is there a adjustment I can do, shifting forks or????? I have tried to call AG, but so far they are not being very cooperative, they are telling me that the clutch is not disengauging all the way, but I know that it is. Any ideas ? Thanks.
Could be linkage in the shift tower & cover, I have seen some wear out and cuase hard shifting usually makes fifth gear a problem, Maybe they did not pick up on that during the rebuild. Someone might have exchanged it becasue of the problem you are having. Also could be the sycronizers for reverse being a little tight The NV4500 has them because the Old SM426's(old tranny in CK chevy's) would grind going into reverse. Does it go into reverse with the engine off? Did you change the clutch when you put the new tranny in? If your sure the clutch is OK, I would give it back to them Or take it to a reputable shop that the transmission vendor deems credible and get an opinion. Just my two cents worth.
