gear oil

I am considering putting Amsoil in my drive line 94 4x4 5 speed manual. Can anyone tell me what to expect from the change.

The NV 4500 requires a special fluid. Make sure Amsoil meets the specs. My understanding that outside of the dealer (GM or Dodge), AutoZone is the only parts store that sells it. Allegedly they carry Pennzoil gear lube that meets the requirements.

Id say longetivity

and better lubrication, but i saw some people runnin it on here, so i decided to follow suit and learn for myself if there is benefit or not.. id also think that it reduces heat as well due to its higher viscosity..

It lasts longer and it makes less heat. Truck in my sig has a Diff, guage(it might be overkill but I like guages) and heat dropped about 15-20 degrees compared to 90w.

where can you get 150w synthetic lube, synthetic is the only type you can use with anti-slip difs right?

We got it from a local oil company. I'm not sure on brand I'll have to check when I'm at the shop tomorrow.

If you are running a clutch style limited slip, then you need to make sure you add a friction modifire. If you don't it will ruin the clutches

I just changed my driveline oil last week and boy am I glad I did. The tranny was starting to shift kinda notchy and I have had the oil for a while now ('bout a year!). Amsoil makes a special oil for the Dodge tranny. I used Amsoil auto trans fluid in the transfer. I used the Severe Duty 75w-140 Amsoil in the rear with friction modifier and Severe Duty 75w-90 Amsoil in the front diff.. My tranny fluid was changed at 82000 with the DC stuff due to that pesky 5th gear nut, but was already black w/ 108000 on the truck now. The transfer was black as well and the rear was more than black. The worst junk I've ever seen. After 10 miles of driving the tranny shifts like new and the truck really seems to run free. This is the setup my Amsoil distributor recommended and I put alot of faith in him since his '99 has over 511000 miles on it now and is dynoing at 488 hp, and on the 2nd OIL CHANGE!!!!

As far as the 75w~90W vs 75W~140. I think I read Dodge did it to help fuel milage. But for towing I actually think they reccomend the heavier viscosity. I am going to change to synthetics soon and go with 90W up front and 75W~140 in the rear since its always pulling, just seems to make more sense. my 2cents.
