fuel shutoff solenoid bracket bolt size
Guys, I am replacing my daughters (95 reg. cab 2wd) solenoid and bracket. The bolts that held her previous bracket on worked, obviously, but I think the spacer on the new one is wider and I can't get the bolt started. Anyone know what the size of the bolt would be to make the trip to town a little less painful by knowing at least what mm the bolt would be. Need one a little bit longer. Thanks a bunch.
Edit: I did a search, but advanced search didn't return anything and general search came back with some error page. (?)

That one is also M6x1mm, but its a good bit longer, 45mm or so. I leave that one out anyway, makes taking off the shut off bracket much easier and faster.

No problem leaving the lower bolt out but can cause big problems if it's left tight and the bracket is forced back to remove the AFC cover.
Bracket gets bent and the solenoid often won't line up correctly.
Result is no start or stop or restricted fuel when the solenoid binds.

That's the one I'm having problems with. The new bracket has a built in spacer for the bolt, and her old bolt is not long enough to reach the threads. The bolt worked fine on her old bracket. There must be a difference in the width of the spacer. I don't know for sure exactly what we did. I have slept since then.

I've heard a couple folks complain of the wrong bracket.
They ended up getting the correct bracket from www.fostertruck.com for free.

I thank you guys for the help. Those were the correct bolt diameter. I had to have one a bit longer for the lower. Her truck is good.

Could be a broken or corroded wire that gives intermittent contact. My dually does the same thing, I just jump out and pull the solenoid up. Does it maybe once every 25 starts, so its not the easiest to track down.

What happens is high amperage draw will "weld" the poorly conductive corroded wire back together.
Solenoid works fine for a while until corrosion wins again and cycle starts over.
It took me forever to figure out what was going on years ago with a truck that had corrosion under the ground cable.
Since then it's been one of the first places I check when there's an electrical problem.
I even had the same problem occur with a direct burial (no conduit) 440 volt 3 phase power cable. Somehow during installation the insulation was nicked allowing corrosion to get started.

The new shutoff solenoids come with a different, larger bracket because the replacement solenoid has been revised and is larger. The kit usually comes with a packet of new screws to fit the new design. Maybe you can return it and get one that's complete with the screws.
