Fuel shutoff solenoid
Fuel shutoff solenoid
My 1995 2500 would not cut off. I took the fuel shutoff solenoid off and cleaned it up. The linkage didn't look bent or anything like that. It ran fine for a test drive, having more power (I have an ongoing lack of power problem but I'll save that for another day) and no problem cutting it off. The next day I drove it to the park. When I went to leave it was extremely hard to start. It wasn't getting enough fuel. I was able to drive it home keeping it reved up but then it wouldn't cut off. Luckily I have a manuel transmission. I tried a new relay today but it didn't solve fix the cutting off problem. I am afraid I need a new solenoid. Dealer cost is $400+. I called a few Cummins places and the cheapest I can find is $262.36. I've notice some folks on this board have been able to find these solenoids for like $175-$200. I am in Northeast Tn. Does anyone know any cheaper places I could check. Also what do you think about a salvage part (if I could fine one). Any help is greatly appreciated.
Re:Fuel shutoff solenoid
Do a search on the solenoid and you may get the info you need. I know a bunch on guys won't spring for the solenoid and instead use a manual choke cable to work the shut off lever.

RamTuffGirl,

You're in luck. I have an extra solenoid that I'm looking to sell. It's unused and unopened in the original package. Still has the order slip taped ot the front.

I'm trying to get $200 out of it. I have no idea what shipping would be on it. It weighs about 4-5lbs.

We might be able to work something out.

Re:Fuel shutoff solenoid
when mine goes I'm not going to replace it. The tried and true choke cable replacement works extemely fine, and is a theft deterrant as well for the unknowing!

Mitch
