Fuel Line Question
Fuel Line Question
So I ordered my replacement (diesel) fuel line and will be replacing the fuel hoses from the tank to the pump soon.
I am just curious if I should leave the old steel lines in place or go ahead and pull them off. I'm assuming it really doesn't matter and I will probably pull them off I just figured I'd ask.
Thanks

Good point. I do think they will come out, but I just figured I'd ask.
One more question; after I have the lines swapped what is the easiest way to re-prime the system? Can I do it with the primer button or should I do it some other way?
Thanks again.

The easiest way is to use compressed air in the tank and crack the bleed screw on your filter housing You need very little pressure 2-3 psi I think, but it will work much faster than the button. Just need someone to watch when diesel starts coming out up front. If you use a blow gun with a rag wrapped around it it will let enough pressure out that you should be fine. 25-30 seconds max.
When I replaced mine I just fired the truck up after I finished installing them. I remember asking my brother-in-law if I should prime it first. His comment was the lift pump is more than capable on our 12 valves. He was right...it fired up without problem and didn't stall out once from no fuel. Just put them on and see if she'll fire up.
Sometimes it will work not to prime, others times not.
When it doesn't work the injection pump usually gets air locked and you have to crack injectors while cranking the engine to purge the air.
Too much added hassle for me. I always fill and purge the system with the compressed air method mentioned above.
