Fuel Leak!!!!!!!

Well im getting a steady drip of diesel from around the lift pump fuel filter area. It dosent drip while the engine is cold, only after it warms up a bit. I felt around the lift pump and it is oily from the diesel but im not sure that is where its coming from. Any ideas or suggestions? I dont think it is coming from the fuel return lines, they're too far back, but im going to change em any ways. What size hose do i need? Thanks For any help, Chris

Re:Fuel Leak!!!!!!!

Check the 5/16 rubber fuel return line directly above the lift pump. It's prob. the leak, it's a common prob.
I've fixed 2 of my buddies trucks latley with that prob. I laughed and said mine wasn't leaking and guess what.
You guessed it Mines Leaking NOW !! :'(
It's a PIA to reach but not big bucks to fix.

: Eddie : 8)

Re:Fuel Leak!!!!!!!

Just make sure you use a diesel-rated hose - Weatherhead is what the local big-rig shop uses. I ordered in some Aeroquip blue for the suction line (5/8" if I remember correctly) but the 5/16" return line is not available in the blue.

And yes, it is a PITA. Have some bandaids around because you will need them.

Re:Fuel Leak!!!!!!!

NAPA has a good hose.
Ask for 5/15 high pressure hose , it's usually used for tranny lines but it works grest for fuel also.
It is wraped in a cloth braid. It looks like steel braided ( which is even better but pricey ) but cloth instead.
I've used for years and never had it to leak.
It's about $3 per foot but after you put it on you'll see that it's worth it not to have to do it again.

GOOD LUCK !

: Eddie : 8)

Re:Fuel Leak!!!!!!!

The previous owner of my truck cut the return line tubing down by the frame and ran 3' of 5/16" hose inside a piece of heater hose to protect it. It was easy to change. My supply line has a piece of braided stainless in it which goes from the frame to another piece of tubing clipped to the side of the trans. I don't know if this is stock or not but I was able to undo the top of the hose, unclip the tubing from the trans and pull it out the bottom to get at the lower hose clamp. A 1/4" socket, nutdriver and a "few" extensions really help with this job.
