Few auto questions.

Ok its time to mod I have had the truck all of 3 weeks and stock isn’t working real well. My First question is just how much more power can I add before my stock trans says bye bye. And how long is its life with that? My next question is can I just add a VB and Triple disk converter and maybe an input shaft to handle more power or should I go fully built from a shop basically do I need to upgrade the clutch packs? I will be driving with the TC locked more often than not. The reason I ask is funds are low right now. But im looking to get more power cheaply. My first round im thinking about the 300hp area later ill add hotter sticks DVs and maybe a new turbo.

With a stock tranny, I wouldn't go much higher than a #10 plate and gsk. Even with those mods you can prematurely blow it but I try to take it easy most of the time. I wouldn't recommend doing boosted launches . A VB and TC are good upgrades. From what I have seen, you should be able to hold 300 hp. Of course the best is to get a fully built auto and be done with it.

Is it a 215 pump? Cause then a #10 would add a lot more hp than a 180 pump like mine. Like I said though, it's all about how you drive it. I admit I drive my truck normally, most of the time like it was stock; but it feels good knowing the extra power is there when I need it. Since I added the shift kit it's been better.

Don't waste your time, get a complete VB from somebody like Dave Goerend. 563-778-2719. His VB's are 100% dyno tested before shipping.

I agree with Mcmopar that an already built vb is a good route to go and the cost isn't too bad ($400-500). Installation is pretty easy. Of course, I did mine for $35. May not be the exact same but it gets the job done for now (increases drive pressure, shift points, flow in park, etc.). You should have some level of mechanical ability and confidence to install the shift kit. Requires opening and drilling your vb. If you usually do your own repairs around your truck you can probably handle it, just take your time.

It was a Transgo TFOD-Diesel shift kit. I got it off ebay. I think the seller was trying to clear old stock that's why he had them so cheap. Becuase now Transgo has an updated TFOD-diesel kit that comes with the separator plate. It's about $80 on ebay the last time I checked. You want to get a new separator plate anyway because your stock one is probably worn out. I got the shift kit, new separator plate, heavy duty band strut, aluminum accumulator piston, and a front servo cover (and a rear servo but couldn't install it).

I would say depending on your mileage,, I would go full rebuilt,, With just adding a valve body, and a torq convertor, you are just basically using a "bandaid" It may help you make it last for awhile longer but horsepower will kill stock autos fast. The torq convertor is a big weak link in the trans,, and once you slip them, well lets say a new trans will be needed very soon. Plus with a new trans, you wont believe how different the truck is as you will be putting the power to the wheels. Like posted above Call Dave,, he will NEVER try and sell you something you dont need. He will also talk to you personally, and answer any questions you have. I have seen him work at his shop,,, working on trans while he has his cordless headset on talking to people. Greatest service I have seen in my life, and my Dually will be going in for a rebuilt trans very soon, just have to make it there is all
