Engine oil in the downpipe
I just finished installing a turbo back 4" aluminized MBRP exhaust. After starting the engine I found a exhaust leak at the downpipe clamp connection.
The clamp wasn't tight enough, so I figured to take a 8 mile drive to enjoy the new sound and tighten it later.
When I got back and crawled under the truck to tighten the clamp I noticed engine oil had seeped from that same connection. Well that made a great day go south very fast.
I was hoping it was residual oil from the manufacturing process. But I know it is not. Cylinder rings shot? turbo oil seal? Where to start?

You can also pull off the intercooler boot at bottom of the pipe going up to the intake to check for any oil there. If you have a leak problem with the turbo it can be rebuilt with a kit. Go to the link for kits. Not hard to rebuild yourself.

I have been driving the truck alot with the clamped connection still leaking exhaust.
I am starting to think that possibly the black oil I did find was from the tubing bending/coating process pooling at the bottom of the down pipe connection. Then it mixed with the exhaust soot and turned black and seeped out.
There was quite a bit of oil on the inside wall of the tubing I noticed as I unpacked the exhaust from the box.
All that is visable now is exhaust soot where the connection is leaking, no sign of any oil. I am keeping my fingers crossed
Now it's time to secure the leaking connection and enjoy.
