Downpipe wrap

Just wondering if anyone out there has wrapped their down pipe could answer a couple of questions?
 • Did you notice a change in the exhaust sound?
 • Did it make anything quieter?
 • Any other pros/cons?

Thanks

Kat,

I wrapped mine when I was using a single turbo and It did quiet things down inside the cab. It stands to reason that it would lower the inside cab temps slightly as well because the wrap can be touched when the pipe is hot without getting burned.

Nathan

Re:Downpipe wrap

Kat..guys like Nate use them on their twin turbos, because the exhaust housings is soooo close to the fire wall. Then when they break-down they have a heated blanket to keep them warm until help arrives..

Steve

Yeah, some of the guys even have these hanging from their rear view mirrors:

Just in case.....ya never know when one of them twins might just fall off or something and leave a guy stranded out in the cold West wind at night. And a nice warm blanky and paci will keep them happy till help shows up.

Would the header wrap benefit us like it does the gassers?
It doesnt benefit the gassers. It benefits the people who work on gassers from gettting burnt. Guys dont use exhaust wrap like they used to because the intense heat under the wrap actualy destroys the thin exhaust metals. And there is no proof of HP gains from using it. Plus the stuff is expensive!!! I've wrapped starters from engine heat but thats really all I thought it was good for. Then again I dont have twins getting everything all hot and bothered under there.

Re:Downpipe wrap

With a post egt reading, when I wrapped my downpipe, it seemed to take longer for egt reduction. Because of the corrosion issue, it might be advisable to jet coat the downpipe inside and out.

Do you still have it on the truck? If your seeing a slower EGT drop by having wrap then whats happening while your driving?

Re:Downpipe wrap

While driving my egt's are fine, it just seems like the cool down takes longer than before the wrap was installed.
