There are many here that will better answer your question, but I would start with your right foot, that would definitely help. You could also slide that #10 to the stock position and that should lower fuel delivery, which should lower boost.

I just recently (Saturday) went through this same situation. 40 psi boost and 1,400 EGT.

I slid my #10 plate back .040". Recommended is .020" at a time but I knew mine was positioned forward of the stock position. The EGT's now top out at 1,000 but the boost will still reach 40 psi. I drive by the pyrometer and right foot, especially when towing.

now u can understand the importance of gauges. I still can't believe that shop told u not to install gauges. 1500 is dangerous for extended periods, and 44 psi of boost isn't great to be running on the stock turbo. you should probably take out the tst elbow to lower the boost some.

moving the plate back some will help mpg's to. From the sounds of it, you might look to save up for a bigger turbo, i think it would help power and EGT's alot. And you could get a 4" Downpipe and exhaust, and than you could look into some Dv's for more power.

Yeah i thought a turbo was in my future and since I got my gauges I know it is. Ill slide the plate back in a bit when it cools down, so Im probably runnin 300 hp then?? Hopefully Ill get it on the dyno tomorrow if I get off work in time.
