downshifting in o/d

So here's the problem, when I'm in o/d and the need comes to kick it down (eg, going up a hill or trying to pass someone) it will not kick down at all. Any ideas on what might be happening here. thanks guys

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
AT 80 MPH you do not have enough engine RPM to go in direct.

First off welcome to the forum
If you fill out your sig with the details of your truck it will be easier to diagnose problems you may be having.
As for your question, do you want it to kick down or just unlock the converter? A light tap on the brake peddle will unlock the converter or you can lock the od out to shift down to third.
