Down Pipe Bolt

I am going to put on a 4" down pipe on my stock 95'. I am afraid of stripped the heads or breaking them on the 2 bolts. They are rusty, seeing they have been on there for 250k miles. Is it a 1/2"? What is the easiest way to get them off? Any techniques? I was thinking impact wrench, but I dont want the heads to strip off. Any ideas or suggestions?

they are 13 mm. my turbo has a removeable elbow held on by a band clamp, the down pipe was bolted to the elbow,i removed the band clamp and took down pipe off with the elbow attached to it,then i could work on it on the bench in a vise i used a torch to heat it up a little and used a 6pt. 13mm socket and worked the bolt in and out, kind of like using a tap and die set so you don't snap it off, use plenty of penetrating oil also use anti sieze when you reassemble, i used a map gas torch.hope this helps..

Oh ok, I will try a 13mm. Is it just the clamp that comes off? Arent there bolts too? I think it would be easier to just put the impact on it. If push comes to shove, I'll be forced to take the whole thing off. Anyone else have any ideas?

P.O.R. has the best way.

Mine were very rusty, but came off easy with hand tools. Had it on the bench.

spray them with PB blaster and remove the air box and intake tube. this will make it alot easier to get to the bolts from above.

if you remove the clamp on the back of the turbo the elbow and down pipe will come off together, the bolts go through the flange on the down pipe then into the elbow, then you can work on it in the shop on bench, less chance of messing things up like busted nuckles and striped bolt heads.

Oh good, so its just the clamp behind the turbo. Thats easy then. Im scared to death of stripping the bolt heads off. I'll have to check that out.
