Question Dana 70 nut torque

Anyone know how much to torque the 2-9/16 nut down to when replacing the axle seal?

If you are talking about the pinion seal that is behind the yoke on the rear diff then I just did mine. The Hayse manual said 440 to 500 ft-lbs. I had to borrow a torque wrench for a friend that works on heavy equipment. Hope this helps and I hope i am answering your question. Opps that is for the 80 for the 70 the book says 220 to 280 sorry .

Thanks, I meant the the axle end nut.
Found it 120-140 ft/lb and back off 1/3 to 1/8 turn.

Sorry I took the 2-9/16" nut as a 2 and 9/16" nut not Two 9/16" nuts. I guess I should only respond when I have been drinking

If the nut behind the pinion is also 2-9/16" that means there are 3 2-9/16 nuts, not one 32 and 9/16"

I tried that torque setting method a couple months ago on mine and it seemed too tight, so I backed mine off more.

Let me know how yours feels with the book torque specs.

Bill I read a good while back that the hub needs from .001 to .010 end play with a dial indicator. I hope this helps Jim

Yeah, I tried to do it the 'right' way and it felt too tight...maybe wore out, pitted up races. I like the dial indicator method---lubing with 80-90 means there needs to be some space in there. Time to brush off the dial indicator and check.
