Ok i got a leaky axle seal on my d 70. Any body ever replace one or the bearing? If so you know about the lock nut in the hub. My ? is does it take a special socket to fit in there or will a standard impact work? I was lookin threw the haynes manual and their pics show what looks to be a special or homemade socket. Would like to know befor im in there and have no tool available and the truck is sitting apart for days.

 

You need an axle nut socket , NAPA sells them AFAIK. It is a very easy job.

 

What JKM said.....NAPA sells some reasonably priced spindle nut sockets and you don't even need an impact gun - a 1/2" ratchet will work fine.....also, your full floating D70 does not have any axle seals...it only has inner wheel bearing hub seals.

 

Is there a certain size to this socket or is this the only one out there?

 

it's 2&9/16'', but the socket itself has very thin walls to fit inside the hub. A standard socket will not fit in there.
