from the first person who replied to everyone in between, you have done nothing but mock this kid, while he has done nothing but try to make what would truley be an awesome car. If HE wants to do it, why not support him. If i had more experience i would love to help. Every response of his, despite the clearly obvious humor, has been quite technical and when he asked for things such as specs on the 5.9 he got called a goat eater, and replied to that with a very intelligent comeback.

I think you keep pursuing this project if you have the funds. I would look more at the 4cyl as that would keep some of the size limitations at bay, if only a little.

Ok, I know I'm thinking a little more out of the box, but consider this.

Quality Corp, in Denver, CO makes a truck carried forklift called a Donkey. It uses a GM 3 speed automatic transaxle and a Kubota 3cyl diesel engine. Together they would both fit up front, and with a little fabricating and creativity you could have a front wheel drive diesel Gremlin. With the small engine, you should get great mileage.

Now it would not be anywhere near as powerful as a cummins, but...... the engine and transaxle weighs about as much as the V8 that came in them originally.

You could feasably lighten the car considerably without sacrificing comfort or looks.

As for performance, if you've ever driven one (I have) the Donkeys downright fly. If you were to find an overdrive front wheel drive transaxle, you could probably see a top end of about 85 and really give some people a run for their money stoplight to stoplight.

One absurd idea deserves another, but I've considered this in a small escortish type car.

The Donkey I came up with is a truck carried forklift. My Googler says that the engines in them are Kubota D1105's. The power curves are at the bottom of the page. Good little englnes, but they seem a bit weak for on highway use. (Sure wish I had a page JUST like that for other engines.) I do wonder what a Turbo, custom made EDM's and ram air would do...

I was not being facetious. I was giving a serious idea. I like that this kid has creative ideas and that he is also able to take the jokes the others have thrown at him. I only commented about it being a rather idea. But it does sound like it would be a fun project just take a long time and some money.

Begle. Thats the units I'm talking about, although they say max speed 15mph. I know they do more than that since one of the guys clocked one at almost 45 following one in his car! I'm sure that's what they consider max safe speed.

25 and 33 HP does sound a little weak, but Kubota did come out with a 4cyl and a turbo model used in the Bobcat skidsteer loaders. As a matter of fact....I have 2 turbos off of em here at the house.

lol, the things bored people come up with

Ya know, I hate to jump on the soap box, but last month there was a poll about which site is the greatest. The reason this site is the best is because people don't flame other people like this. If someone has an off the wall idea, it USUALLY gets supported, not called a goat eater. If someone wants to do something this out of wack, then let 'em go for it. If I knew more, I would help you out, Begle.

Okay, now that I have that out of my system, if you could go for the turbo kubota, it would probably fit, I think the newer turbos are rated at 57 HP or something like that.
