Cam Gear

I am trying to find out if I messed up my cam gear. I removed the gear from my old cam to put it in a new cam. I thought I had done all the research on the best method to do this but after installing the gear on my new cam I read that heating the gear above 350 degrees will permanently distort the gear. Is the true? I the cam is installed and I can rotate the enginge very easily and do not see any distortion of the gear. So does anyone have any info on this?

As long as it was heated evenly, it should be fine.
