Blow By

I've been noticing that I'm getting what looks like a steam mist coming from my vent tube. It's not a heavy mist, but it puts a thin coat of oil around my oil pan and front driveline. Truck has 144,000 on it. Is this something that I should be concerned about? I use about 1.5 to 2 quarts of oil every 4,500 miles.

Re:Blow By

check out the post about replacing the vac pump seal . Im gonna replace mine soon. Ive been getting enough blow by to cover the under side and tailgate of my truck . I dont think there is any real damage as long as you keep enough oil in her .
Wheels
Re:Blow By

Also check your lift pump. If the inside seal gets bad it will put a small amount of diesel in the oil and cause a lot of blowby.

Re:Blow By

Any way of telling if it's the lift pump without pulling it? Any visible signs from the exterior?

Re:Blow By

If the lift pump is bad you will either get fuel in the oil [ oil level on dipstick will rise ] or it will leak on the ground.
Thats what mine did 2 weeks ago and it was intermitten for about 2 months.

: Eddie : 8)

Re:Blow By

Thohgt I had blow-by problem only to find that my AFC housing was leaking. It's directly above the breather tube and made it look real bad. Tony

Re:Blow By

The two things I did to cure oil leakage was replace the gasket between the vacuum/power steering pump assembly and the block and hang a small vitamin pill bottle on the end of the breather tube. No drips now!!

Re:Blow By

Sides of the block are dry UNTIL I get to the oil pan. Some of this appears to be coming from it, if not all of it. I need to check my rear main too. Any slick ideas on how to replace the pan gasket?

Thanks
