Anyone Ever Thought of Using a Blow-Off Valve?
Anyone Ever Thought of Using a Blow-Off Valve?
Has any one seen a CTD with an adjustable blow off valve similar to that used on import gassers? <br><br>A couple of the guys in my Diesel class have been toying around the idea, theoretically it would decrease turbo lag, and eliminate any "barking" by getting rid of any back pressure on the intake side of the turbo.<br><br>We really dont know how it will work yet, so I thought I would run it by everyone for some possible ideas.
Re:Anyone Ever Thought of Using a Blow-Off Valve?
The way a blow off valve works, is when you are running full throttle on a gasser, you are flowing boost past the throttle body. When you let off the gas, the throttle body slams shut. Well, even though your throttle body is slammed shut, you are still pushing boost (whether it be supercharger or turbo) towards that throttle body. That's bad because the boost has no where to go and ends up going back through the turbo/supercharger. A blow off valve prevents this cause it senses when the throttle body is closed and opens up and vents the excess boost being thrown in.
Now, if I'm correct, our trucks don't have a throttle body to stop the boost flowing in. So a blow off valve would be useless.

Re:Anyone Ever Thought of Using a Blow-Off Valve?
blue is right .........a blow off vavle is used to vent spikes in pressure when the throttle valves slam shut (friends 2.2 turbo 4 would spike from 11-20psi when you let off the throttle)<br><br>CTD's have no throttle valves and you don't get any spikes in the boost pressure, so it would not operate........<br><br>if it would work I would have had one already, they sound ulltra cool
Re:Anyone Ever Thought of Using a Blow-Off Valve?
But, wouldnt the boost pressing against the back of the closed intake valves be the same as it pushing aginst the closed throttle body?
Re:Anyone Ever Thought of Using a Blow-Off Valve?
That means I could use a blowoff valve cause I have a butterfly valve. That would sound cool 32psi. psssssssssssshhhhhhhhhh ;D

It seems HKS already makes a kit for the diesel engine.<br><br>http://www.hksusa.com/images/?id=1746&rsku=0<br><br>and kinda has an explanation.<br><br>http://www.hksusa.com/FAQ/?id=1758&rsku=0
Re:Anyone Ever Thought of Using a Blow-Off Valve?
"The Diesel blowoff uses an electronic/mechanical throttle trigger in conjunction"<br><br><br>cool so that's how they do it, cause a normal pressure activated blowoff valve would not work ........they just have it electricaly open when you let off the throttle
<br><br>thanks, I'll have to look into that<br><br>I can hear it now .........whiiiiiiiiiiine.......phssssssss......... ....whiiiiiiiiine...............phsssssssss....... ..whiiiiiiiiiiine.......phssssssss.........whiiiii iiiiiine.......phssssssss.........whiiiiiiiiiiine. .;D
