Blending your own Synthetic and regular oil?
Anyone else doing this? I use straight Rotella synthetic T in the winter but this summer I have started blending it with reqular Rotella. I have been told from numerous mechanics that it is ok to do this and it is on the shelf now too. I'm running 1 gallon of synthetic and the rest regular. I have to admit the engine seems to sound better and runs the same.

Most oils are somewhat compatible.
Let me answer this question this way.
Lets say you like beer and you like pepsi.
Do you ever mix them???
Why not?
All oils are a recipe that is designed by an engineer.
All cakes are too. Have you ever used 6 eggs in a cake that calls for 2??
Didn't work did it!!!

Did some research, this is what i found, you can blend synthetic with reg oil but you will compromise the viscosity of the two oils, it will not be consistant. Synthetic is 5w40 while reg oil is 15w40. So they are "somewhat compatible". I myself would use one or the other. I do use reg 15w40, use to use syn but now use reg 15w40 and change every 6000 miles, if you stay on top of the oil changes like that, don't give the oil a chance to break down you can't go wrong, thats what it all about, stay on top of it.

My question is why bother blending the two? Pick one!!!! If you want the benefits of the synthetic blends for temperature resistance, fuel-soot retention and added detergents, then why waste your time blending?
My original 89 CTD had over 300,000 miles with regular dyno oil and it still had compression over 360 psi, new is 400.
Its like putting one GOOD tire on your truck. Why bother???
