Anybody blending cooking oil

Has anybody blended cooking oil into their diesel? With what results? I'm thinking of setting up a tank to filter the junk out of it and then blend it into #2 at around 20% to 30%. I think in the summer time it shouldn't cause any problems. Winter could be bad because it gells at such a high temp. Lots easier than making bio with most of the benifts as fas as I can tell.

I did last fall when we got "Katrina"ed on fuel prices... I ran new stuff that was cheaper from Sams Club than at the #2D pump!
I noticed a quieter engine and a better exhaust smell (smelled like Popcorn cooking). Same power that I could tell...
I ran about 3/4 SVO to 1/4 #2 as that was what was left in the tank when I filled up.
I was going to go get some more to check mileage but strangely, Sams quit stocking Veggie oil until the price of #2 dropped back into the current range...

mixing fuels

I bought ten gallons of brand new canola oil real cheap at an auction the other day. Now the engine runs smoother.

If you are going to use wvo you probably ought to go the biodiesel route. Most used oil has a lot of salt, spices and other chemicals that need to be filtered and washed out.

I have been mixing #2 and WVO for about 5mths now.(75%WVO, 25% #2+ the recommended amount of PS with cetane boost and as high as 85% WVO) I filter it down to 1 mic and run it through a 15 mic Racor Water seperator. I mix 1 gallon kerosene and 1/4 reg unleaded to every ten gallons of WVO. The only problems I have had is that the WVO acts like a solvent breaking up any old gunk and parrafin left in your system. I went through a onboard filter once per tank for about the first six tanks, since then I have been changing at regular intervals. Also I did manage to get a little water past the Racor on a couple tanks but that was easily cleared up with one bottle (treats 10 gallons) to 35 gallons of the oil/fuel mixture. Now I have only been doing this for 5 mths and do not recommend it unless you can afford to pay for the potential resulting damage. These are very prelimnary results. This fall if nothing has went **** up on me I will pull the injectors and let ya'll know what they look like.
I will say this though it has saved me a bunch of money so far. Also the rig does run much quieter and smells kind of funny. It like pooring a quart of power punch down the throat of a rough running rig and listening to it smooth out. Kind of creepy.

By the way I have been told that this does not work so well with the common rail trucks. I have read and been told that you do not want to go more than 65% give or take in theses applications. ALso it is imperative that you aquire nothing but PURE WVO. No partially hydrogenated or shortening based oils.
