auto transmission swap

anyone know if i can do this and what parts will be needed and changed,

i'd like to swap a transmission out of a 2001 probably a 47re into a 1996 which might have a 47rh in it, not sure if the model numbers are right and both trucks are 4x4, the 01 a reg. cab and the 96 an ext. cab

a bubby of mine has the 2001 and is swapping a six speed into his this coming weekend, so i can get everything coming off the truck like the flywheel, trans, and transfer case then right now my trans has losted OD and has alot of metalic brass particles in the fluid,

thanks for any help

It wont work. ECM wont interface rh is hydraulic re is electronic with various sensors missing It would be easier to sell that one and buy a rebuild.

A 96 will have a 47RE and yes like PourinDiesel said, your going to have to change all the sensors and the wiring harness in the trans.

My 96 has an RE in it. Check under your hood (there is a tag) it will tell you what tranny you have.
